THE RULES OF TEXAS HOLD’EM
“It’s enough of five minutes to learn the rules but it takes a lifetime to master it” |
Classic poker or stud poker, this game knows of very numerous variants but Texas Hold’em is today, and by far, the most popular and most played variant worldwide, essentially because its rules are simples and easy to assimilate. The first and most important principle of poker : to possess, or make believe to possess, a better hand than those of the opponents. When a player holds the strongest hand, he raises, wishing that the other players will call his raise. But when a player raises to persuade he has the best hand while it is not the case, he hopes naturally that his opponents will give up calling his raise. This is what we call the bluff. Second principle of poker : whatever is the adopted variant, a poker hand is always constituted of five cards and all these cards play. So, if a player possesses a hand of two pairs and if his opponent has an identical hand, it is the fifth card that will decide between them. This card is called the kicker. In Texas Hold’em, each player receives two cards which he is the only one to know. On the table, five cards are dealt visible and all players can use these five cards. Each player thus has seven cards to form the best possible combination of five. |
